It's Not What you take, It's what you bring back
I was recently awarded the a sculpture artist call that will allow me to fabricate adn install a piece in Denver international Airport's concourse B-East. The work will be comprised entirely of donated luggage, and items from residents of Colorado. The goal is to symbolize the 24/7 nature of both the airport and the journey of life, as well as memorialize the stories and experiences you gain when you travel. The work is scheduled to be installed in Spring of 2025.
Updates and Progress
We are now in the Fabrication phase of the Public Art process. This process includes delivering the luggage to the fabricators, Demiurge, who will then build an armature, and attach each piece of luggage.
Luggage Donations
Over 200 pieces of luggage were collected by over 100 different entities and individuals throughout Colorado. This is a time-lapse of me loading all the pieces from my garage into a U-Haul to be delivered to the fabricators.
The Armature
My fabricators, Demiurge, built a steel armature in 6 different sections that will serve as the backbone of the sculpture. Each piece of luggage with have its own plate extension that will be welded onto the armature.
